My 'flow/release/contact' class is a 1,5 hour celebration of dancing-energy that 'flows' and where -at times- we also practice contemporary partner-work (contact) and elements of the very popular 'release'-style. Release-work is based upon the work of Doris Humphrey, who was a contemporary of Martha Graham. While Martha created a strong academic technique based on breath & the dynamics coming forth from the intensified use of the breath, Doris based her style on 'fall & recovery'; very fluid and pleasant 'dance-able moves'. Miss Humphrey was (like miss Graham) a highly skilled and innovative choreographer. She wrote the famous book ' The art of making dances', which is still widely used as the choreographers-guide. Jose Limon was one of the students (of both Martha & Doris) that continued miss Humphreys work, and his students (who where all strongly trained in Graham technique too, as all serious dancers where in the late nineties) further developed this style into what is called 'release'-work. The interesting part (that few people know nowadays) is that this very pleasant dance-style greatly benefits from and can be enjoyed fully (and without injuries) whit a body trained in (guess what?) the Graham technique.
To increase the pleasure and passion for the dancers in Paris I provide both.
Be welcome to join in the celebration!
